Environmental Inspector

Position Overview

ESI is seeking a motivated Environmental Inspector to conduct site inspections, perform environmental sampling, and prepare technical environmental reports. This role includes on-the-job training with a pathway toward earning the Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) certification.

This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring multiple site visits per day, strong technical writing skills, and professional client communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and sampling for environmental contaminants (mold, asbestos, radon, water damage, soot, and other hazards) in residential and commercial properties.
  • Complete multiple field visits per day and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Develop remediation and abatement protocols to protect building occupants and workers.
  • Prepare high-quality environmental reports using established ESI templates and guidance.
  • Provide timely updates to clients and offer ongoing project consulting.
  • Achieve and maintain state-required environmental sampling licenses (e.g., Maryland Asbestos Sampling License).

Required Qualifications

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe.
  • Basic understanding of building science and indoor environmental principles.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Clean criminal background check.
  • Excellent phone, email, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coachable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
  • Strong customer service and client-facing communication skills.

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. ESI provides mentoring and training to help employees achieve CIE certification.
To qualify for the Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) credential, candidates need either:

  • 2 years of field experience in indoor environmental consulting, or
  • A two-year bachelor’s degree in environmental science.

The position involves coordinating marketing activities, nurturing client relationships, managing follow-ups, and increasing brand visibility within the remediation, restoration, insurance, and property management industries. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring weekly site visits, excellent customer service, and professional communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent ESI through face-to-face B2B outreach, including community events, client visits, networking functions, and charitable events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients to understand their needs and identify how ESI can support their projects.
